Welcome to the VanderFamily, Dr. Barry Manilow. On Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Barry Manilow was presented an honorary Doctor of Music Education honoris causa. In addition to his incredible contributions as a singer, songwriter, musician, and entertainer, Manilow has served thousands of students through his Manilow Music Project. The project recognizes dedicated music teachers and helps bring music and musical instruments to schools around the nation.

On a more serious note he explained that while other awards he鈥檚 received were for his work as a performer, 鈥渢his is the first time that anybody has ever acknowledged me as being a musician鈥鈥檒l never forget this.鈥�
The music icon wrapped up his farewell concert in Detroit with a surprise honor when he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music Education degree during his performance at Little Caesars Arena.
